Pneumococcal vaccine is available in two forms:

• Polysaccharide vaccine(PPSV23) consisting of polysaccharides from 23 serotypes.
• Conjugated Vaccine(PCV13) with 13 serotypes consists of capsular polysaccharides.

According to  ICS-NCCP (2019) guidelines:

• Vaccination with PPSV23 in all adults older than 65 years is recommended because of the overall higher incidence of invasive pneumococcal disease in this age group.

Vaccination with PCV13 first, followed by PPSV23, may be recommended for individuals having immune compromised conditions, chronic diseases and smokers.
